Why patients don’t adhere to medical advice

Illness is a part and parcel of life. You’ll be surprised how many germs your body is susceptible to. For some illnesses, our body has an active immune system with anti-bodies in place. Though at times due to the weather and other factors are immune system fails to prevent us against these germs. It also so happens that our body hasn’t yet produced anti-bodies for certain ailments.

Medical Advice Online

You may think why you are spending time reading the most obvious thing ever! Well, that’s because sometimes the most obvious things fail to strike us when required the most! The most common steps after falling ill are:
  1. To deny the illness and convince yourself that you are just a little tired
  2. To self-medicate yourself with medicines that you think ‘might’ work
  3. To wait for the medicine to affect
  4. To visit the doctor
  5. To ignore the doctor’s medical advice!
Most of us don’t even reach the 4th step because somehow our self-medication works. But have you ever thought why an illness keeps recurring – there must be a reason behind it! Irrespective of whether you know the reason or not; will it not be helpful to speak to a medical professional who will cease all your physical worries?
In another scenario, if we do however reach number 4 – we argue with the doctor,  tell him our ‘diagnosis’ before waiting for his. When he finally prescribes medicines, we either don’t complete the course or we simply don’t take the medicines at all. Doctors also suggest us a few lifestyle changes that can help us in dealing with our physical troubles and prevent the recurrence of the same kind of ailment. What happens to this advice? It is completely and totally ignored by patients across the world!
The doctor didn’t suit me
I’ve heard this so often, I would assume the patient is trying on clothes! Doctors are supposed to cure you and advise you – they will not change their suggestion according to your whims and fancies. This is not to say that you should stick to a doctor even if his prescribed medicine isn’t working for you. But if you don’t want to visit a doctor simply because he is firm and expects you to change your style of living for your own benefit; it won’t work! You will always be on the lookout for doctors who agree with patients irrespective of their medical judgment.
Whatever has to happen will happen
Well, of course! But is it necessary to blatantly ignore a learned person’s advice and gorge on kilos of sweets when you are suffering from diabetes? Your family member would think not! Patients don’t realize that people around them suffer as much emotionally as they are suffering physically. It’s important to listen to your doctor even if it means changing your habits and style of living completely.
Doctors do know best
Yes, it’s your body and you understand its workings better than anyone but doctors have spent years studying and practicing their profession. They are up to date with everything that can possibly go wrong with the human body and know how to cure it. There are certainly a number of diseases that are yet to be researched upon and a lot of cures yet to be discovered – but whatever a doctor knows; he will communicate to his patient for the betterment of the patient! So next time you consult a doctor, keep your mind open, let him take the lead and follow his advice to the T. You will notice how great it is to feel healthy and not be susceptible to illnesses that you were earlier bombarded with and that in fact can be easily cured!
If you are short on time and don’t see the need to visit doctors for every small thing – you can also consult a doctor online in the comfort of your homes!
